IT Asset Management Dashboard

An interactive dashboard tracking IT assets via the Snipe-IT API — visualizing allocation, lifecycle, and refresh cycles.

Project overview

Demonstrates strong organizational skills, data analysis capabilities, and the ability to manage critical IT resources efficiently — essential for modern Help Desk and IT Operations roles.

Real-world use case

A large enterprise with thousands of IT assets needs a centralized view to manage inventory, track depreciation, and plan hardware upgrades.

Build roadmap

  1. Set up a Snipe-IT instance
Use the hosted demo or self-host with Docker. Load 50–100 sample assets across laptops, monitors, and phones with realistic purchase dates and assignments.
  2. Get an API token
Generate a personal access token in Snipe-IT settings and confirm it works with a single curl request to the hardware endpoint before writing any code.
  3. Build the Python extractor
Paginate through the hardware and licenses endpoints, flatten the JSON into pandas DataFrames, and save to CSV or Parquet. Handle a rate limit gracefully.
  4. Calculate key metrics
Unassigned assets, age distribution, devices past a four-year refresh point, warranties expiring in 90 days, and license utilization. Write each as a function with a test.
  5. Build the Power BI report
Connect to your extract and build an aging heatmap, allocation by department, and a refresh timeline. Add a slicer so a manager can see only their own team.
  6. Schedule the refresh
Automate a daily extract and publish to Power BI Service so the report updates without you. Write a one-page runbook for whoever inherits it.

Ways to extend the project

Use an AI agent to predict asset failure rates based on usage patterns and suggest proactive maintenance schedules.
